Renewable energy certificates are certificates that represent the amount of green energy produced through renewable energy sources. They are a direct representation for the amount of green energy produced. These certificates can be bought, sold, traded, bartered, or used to show proof that renewable energy was generated.

How do I get renewable energy certificates

If you have a source for renewable enrgy such as solar panels, you can get a certificate for every one megawatt-hour of electricity generated. These certificates are a representation and as the owner of the certificate they can be claimed or sold. Many companies are required to operate on a certain percentage of renewable energy. By purchasing these certificates it allows the companies to comply with state or local laws. Once the certificate is claimed it can no longer be sold and that 1 MWh of power and is considered to have been used.
